The problem is, by trying to increase clearance you need to reduce the vertical dimension of the header, (from 10" to 8" or less) and at the same time you are wanting to increase the span, which increases the load.
The strength in a header is in the width, or the vertical dimension, not in the horizontal dimension.
Consider my earlier suggestion of using a larger header and hanging the floor joists from it.
Or a steel I beam.
