I had a engineer calculate the glue lam beam for my house to span the living room. And in the garage I used 2 heavy angle irons under the 10 foot wide door and they bent under the snow load then I used a 10 inch wide heavy I beam the same width as the blocks with a foot resting on the blocks on each side and it may be over kill but works good for the snow loads
