Horn question----Very Strange!!

Hey all,
I know this isnt a true powerwagon (yet anyways)But I need some help. I have a 73 D-100 pickup, 2WD and no powersteering. When I push the horn I get a poof of smoke coming out of the flexible coupling on the steering shaft! If I push the horn long enough I get flames out of it. The horn itself barely makes a squeak. I know on the older Dodges the horn button wire goes thru the steering shaft and out the steering box but I see no wires sticking out of this one. ANY IDEAS?? Thanks, Colby.
P.S. I haven't had time to take the coupler apart.
