“ Most likely it is loss of fuel out of the carb. “

I have the same problem, Joe. Not only the WC but also my willys CJ3A.

Happened to me yesterday. Like your scenario, but mine don’t take that long to finally fire. Maybe 4-5 seconds.

Today I’ll go out there and it won’t take nearly as long to crank first thing this am. So I believe this draining of the fuel is taking more than a day or two.

In fact I’ve even tried a few experiments to prove my theory:

1- stomp on pedal before engaging starter. Now if there WAS fuel present to the level the accelerator pump it would squirt enough fuel to start. Didn’t work. So the carb bowl was dry or at least low

2- after a good week of not starting, I simply removed the oil bath cleaner and squirted a little gas directly down carb. Immediate fire up

So it WAS (and still is) a fuel draining back problem at least for me. Or so it looks likely.

I didn’t know about those in line check valves. I’m gonna try this next.

I even thought about a simple drilled hole in the top of the air cleaner with a rubber plug or something I can quickly remove and squirt a bit of ether down. Maybe an idea. But after lifting the hood it isn’t THAT much effort to take off air cleaner

So I don’t think you have electrical issues. It’s most likely fuel draining from bowl of carb, and it takes a lot of cranking to refill.
