It would trap moisture. Canvas always leaks to some extent. The only way to really stop it would be to treat it with a waxy oil as Filson does with their cruiser jackets and pants. As a kid, we never touched the walls of a canvas tent as it would start leaking.

Anything lying on the surface of a vehicle will trap moisture and start rust or mold.
