Cummins and an electric fan

I am finally ready to mount the fan on my FFPW 12 valve project. I got a good electric fan that will operate as a pusher and will extend the grill just a bit further than those on a 251. My question is: The fan comes with nylon straps that you thread thru the radiator. I have never used these and have always built a "real" mounting system that was independent of the radiator. Are these nylon straps really a legit way to mount the fan? I am certainly not a perfectionist and they would save me hours of fabrication. However, damaging fins and potentially having a hole rubbed in my radiator are concerns.
