I used to own a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with 360 gas and 46RE automatic trans and the optional heavier duty NP241DHD transfer case. Had a sure grip rear end too. Kept it for 12 years and about 365,000 miles on it.

Not too familiar with the V10, but the 360 Magnums water pumps didn't seem to last very long, only about 95-100,000 miles before they needed to be replaced. Other things with the second generation trucks, the AC evaporator coils would develop a leak, the dash panels would crack and the vacuum actuator on the front axle to engage 4x4 would sometimes give fits. Look for any cracked rear springs or any slop in the lower steering column shaft bearing. Also check out the track bar in front for any extra slop. Any amount of wear on these will give very sloppy steering.

Of course, change the fluids often in the transfer case, differentials and especially in that automatic transmission to get maximum life out of them! Never go longer then 30,000 miles between fluid changes.
