I purchased new door latch assemblies from VPN. These are not for the faint of heart to install. The striker would not clear the opening in the door. If I were able to retract the striker into the assembly the mechanism would just clear the opening but there was no easy way to retract it. Finally with a lot of work and injuries to both forearms I was able to put in two screws, install the inside remote mechanism and using the inside door handle to retract the striker just enough to clear the opening. I can't see the factory installers doing that procedure as it is not easy on the hardware. Anyway, after some missing skin, some missing paint and a lot of swearing they are in.
