ot 2018 f250 diesel 4x4

greetings. have a new 2018 f250 4x4 diesel. it has locking hubs from the factory. my understanding is that you lock the hubs in when you want to or may need to run 4x4 like in the winter and then you unlock for the seasons or uses that dont require 4x4. issue is that when the 4x4 hubs are engaged, and the case is in 2wd, the front end makes a rumbling noise. i don't get this noise in my 3500 dodge with dynatrac hubs. silent with hubs in or out. something i'm missing? Car is at the dealer for its first oil change. do these hubs auto lock or have a feature that i'm missing? i dont think this is correct/
