First, you need to determine if it's the tire or the rim.
- You'll need to warm up the tire by driving the truck 15 miles or so. Jack up the tire and turn it till the tire just starts the flat spot and mark tire with chalk, continue until the flat spot just starts to end, then mark the tire, and mark the rim at center point between the two tire marks, you'll need these later.
- Demount the tire from the rim and mount the rim on the hub and spin it. If it has a flat spot, then I would replace the rim.
- If the rim doesn't have a flat spot, mount the tire opposite the marking on the rim between the two tire marks, this sometimes corrects an out-of-round condition.
- Mount the rim/tire on the hub and spin the tire. If you still have an out-of-round condition more than 1/16 of an inch, then I would shave the tire.
- Remember, the tire has to be warm before shaving it, it can be cold from setting or the flat spot will become the high spot once shaved.
- Balance the tire after shaving and you can also install balancing beads as well to help with tire shaking, they work well. Speed directly impact how long balancing will last on a FFPW due to the caster on the front axle.
