If i had a 1/2 ton I would put a longer 228, 237, 241, 251 or 265 in with bigger cam and shave as much as possible off the head and run bigger carburetion. those modifications make the truck perform like you have put a whole different power plant in. Wakes them up big time.
on the 1/2 tons its an easy conversion. I have only done one for a customer. we put a 265 in and it would actually break the tires loose for a monment. ;/)
