Both of mine are turboed (LDT465-1C) I put boost gauges on them and turned up the fuel to get, if memory serves, 15 psi max turbo boost. That was either one flat or one turn of the adjusting nut. An old motor pool mechanic told me it was safe. Got me noticeably more power. One thing I forgot to mention was on the one that now won't start at all, the other thing it did on the way back from Seattle, besides stall out frequently was suddenly over-fuel itself and power up beyond all reason. I quickly learned to drive one one eye on the boost gauge. If I backed off on the peddle, it would settle down just fine. It was like the governor was going too far. Something is clearly very wrong inside the injector pump. I changed all the filters and cleaned the canisters, and I'm getting clean fuel out of the final bleeder fitting.

I'll confess I ran quite a bit of salvaged fuel oil when I found it for free. Most came from a 4-plex where each unit had its own oil tank on the back porch. I helped the guy get rid of the tanks in exchange for the fuel oil. Some was pretty old, probably high-sulfur (no red dye) and wet, and it rusted my fuel tanks rather much. Ended up pumping out what was left, saving it for fire starting, mixing with waste lube oil to preserve wood, and stuff like that, and putting fresh modern diesel plus biocide additive in the tanks. Learned my lesson there, but may have messed up the injector pump in the process.
