When I was driving a Wagoneer with AMC 360, I would adjust the timing when I headed up the mountains. It was very unhappy pulling long grades without doing so. I live below 1,000 feet, and we would take vacation trips to Colorado. On one occasion, I put smaller jets in the carb. They were lean such that it required quite a bit of choke during warm up at around 8,000, but it did run more reliably when we were going all the way up to 14,000.

You could experiment once you get there. It won't be long before you'll be able to give the rest of us pointers.
