I just had to go through my 52 PW. It was not starting after sitting for a few months this winter. I tried a while back and have been busy since so I finally got to it. It was not getting spark. I definitely could smell gas from the tailpipe. The wires were good to the coil and coil to the distributor. I could manually open the points and could see a spark at the points. I decided to pull the points and condenser since both have been there since before I bought the truck 30+ years ago. The points were covered in carbon but showed very little erosion. You can never tell about the condenser. I replaced both and I jumped a wire from the battery to the coil. I started as soon as I hit the starter. The cap and rotor were just fine.

I still have one issue that shows up from time to time. If I jump from the battery and coil it always starts. If I just turn the key it often will not start. I measured the voltage at the coil with the ignition switch on and nothing else on I get a reading of 4 volts. I get a reading of 6 volts at the ammeter post. Some where I have a bad connection, wire or the ignition switch is worn or contacts are dirty. I have not chased it down yet. This truck has all original wiring which is in very good condition.
