I run between 6 and 10. the fuel of today is a bit better than the 1930s and 1940s. octane started going up in the 1950s and went back down in the 1970s but not as low as the prior. these engines were designed to run on 70 octane. 2 btdc is right for that. 87 octane is like race fuel in comparison
