It's not the salt, it's the condensation that's the killer on all my old machinery. Doesn't matter what it is, it's covered with condensation inside and out all winter, including the insides of gear boxes. It never gets warm enough to evaporate and it seldom stays cold enough either. Everything that's not well-painted rusts. Good to know the U-bolts are likely to be saveable. Will squirt some motor oil on the threads right now just to get them in the mood for thinking about coming apart some day.
