There is a product sold by Eastwood, which is supposed to be made just for this kind of application, called Eastwood Internal Frame Coating. It comes in an aerosol can with a hose to get into hard-to-reach locations like the one you're talking about. I haven't used it myself, but it has a 4.5-star rating from 236 users (according to Eastwood's own website, so take that as you like). In any case, it may be worth a look. I'll definitely be looking at it when I get done with other stuff on my truck, because I have similar concerns.

I see that Eastwood also has a coating called Chassis Paint and Rust Encapsulator. It might also be worth a look, although I'm dubious about things that are supposed to encapsulate rust, because I've always thought that rust keeps growing, even if you coat it.

Let us know what you decide to do.

I'd also be interested to hear what other people have done, and their success (or lack of).
