I didn't see anything that looked like wear to me. I lightly sanded the bores where the ball studs go, just to remove surface rust, and didn't notice anything worn. In fact, I'm looking at one of the bores now, and I think I can still see and feel the original machining marks all the way around.
And hopefully the tie rod ends are correct for my truck. I got them from VPW many years ago, so they probably are. I think I will go ahead and put a thick washer under each nut, to raise it up. I can't see how that will hurt anything. Otherwise, the cotter pin hole is nowhere close to lining up with the slots in the nut.
