Don,
I am installing one of these into my '42 WC53 with an Allison 1000.

Dan M. has installed a few now himself.
They are bigger than a standard 4bt, and most all are rear-geartrain which can make for some interesting foot space if the engine is pushed back into the firewall for the sake of intercooler and radiator space. Mine is an early variant so it actually uses quite a bit of the same 24V common rail parts, just with 2 less cylinders.

The ECM has an industrial tune so you can't use any of those fancy aftermarket tuners, however there is a company in England that sells a programmer that will take the engine to a clean 205 hp, 520 ft-lb.

If you buy one, find one that has the complete un-cut harness so that you can parse it down yourself. There is a bunch of CAN J1939 wiring in the factory harness, so for the sake of later diagnostic, its easier to keep that intact vs having to re-create it with the braided wires.

I have a good broken down wiring scheme and understanding of the ECM, controls etc.

Mine has cruise control, high idle control, etc. I paired mine with an infinitybox CanBus system so I also have a security system, remote start, and OBD for circuits. The factory fuel system is overly complex so I relocated my filter system to the lift pump and built a remote an inline fitting for my fuel temp sensor but don't even have the fuel heater in my system because I am not going anywhere that cold with it.

The best source is to buy an entire Freightliner or Workhorse brand van with the drivetrain in it. The Allison Industrial computer wiring is also different but I've figured that one out too. Its actually pretty easy.

Email me and we can chat over the phone if you want.
