I blow it out with compressed air. if you don't have air you could probably get most of with a straw on a can of brake clean. almost no one alive knows about the practice. baby boomers are in their 70s and they didn't grow up with flatheads as daily drivers for the most part. the practice died when everything went overhead valve and the quality of fuel gradually got better and better after ww2. no fuel is not that great as it was 40 years ago but its at least clean
