Glad that worked out for you Jerry. I know a story of another wrecking yard power steering find where the outcome was not so good.

There was a guy on the other side of the state from me who bought a Power-Wagon (mid 1960's W200 I believe it was) and sent it to a friend in Iowa to restore it. The restoration was going well, and I would not expect any different from this guy in Iowa. The owner in Illinois found a factory power assist in wrecking yard and sent it to Iowa to be installed. It was completely gone through, checked, and installed. On the first drive, the restorer got up to about third gear and found that the power assist had a mind of its own. The front wheels suddenly, without warning, slammed left to full lock ripping the steering wheel out of the drivers hands. The driver was thrown to the passenger floor and the truck was wrapped around a large tree at the bottom of the embankment. It is a wonder he was not killed but he is a tough farm boy and I know he has been through worse. Fortunately the road was closed for construction at the time so there was no one traveling from the opposite direction. In a flash the truck was beyond any restoration.

The restorer told me that he would like to have seen the truck in the wrecking yard that donated the power assist. It was probably in the wrecking yard for a reason. And he will never install another power assist off of a non-operating truck.

Not to scare you Jerry. Just saying.

Junior
