engine timing

yup.. timing at TDC.

I also got the same suggestion as to perhaps it should be set to BTDC.. It was suggested changing it to 4 degrees before top dead center, for a points set up.

One fellow said he has an M37 with the pertronix and has his set at 8 degrees BTDC.

I will try that too.

can you explain why timing, at least retarding it, will change the "miss" or "stumble" I experience here?

is it as the engine warms, and the valve clearance to tappet change, so that the engine MUST fire a little before the exhaust valve closes? to fix this proboem? IS that the reason?
