I think by 1954 dodge was using the model 62 or 65

A model 62 or 65 looks nearly identical to a model 61 and they mount the same as the model 61.

I'm a little vague on when the model 61 was changed to the model 62, but I think it was around 1951. After the model 62 I think the model 65 came into use in 1954 or 1955. The model 65 was replaced with the 12V model 75 around May or June of 1956 when the C3 after 12V trucks were introduced.

The rest of your information and speculation looks correct to me and it could have been a model 61 as a dealer might have still had one laying around.
