Someone should document all the clever things they've done to keep those old cars going so we can do the same after the collapse of civilization. But I do hope congress will lift the embargo and we can resume regular trade. The Cubans shouldn't have to live like this in the modern world.
Some financial writers are saying that the real reason behind the thaw is that Venezuela can no longer afford to keep giving Cuba oil, so Castro's having to dial down the communist rhetoric and go begging to the US. Of course a lot of American conservatives don't see it that way. But maybe the plunge in oil prices did give Castro the kick in the butt that he needed.
