I have a similar setup on my '48. No problems.

I doubt that the glass bowl on the fuel pump is causing a problem since it was the standard setup. Since, it's below the manifold, it probably benefits from some airflow, both from convective air currents and the movement of the vehicle.

I'd run a pressure and volume test on the fuel pump. That is the first place to start when trouble shooting fuel-related problems.

If the fuel pump is weak, it may take awhile for the pump to catch up after the engine speed increases.

Make sure you have about three pounds of pressure at idle. But, volume is also an important factor.

If you have the same hesitation problem when the engine is cold, it's not a heat-related problem.
