I jack up the front enough so I can spin the tires; then I use a construction crayon and jack stand to draw a line around the spinning tire(center). Then I set it back down and make my adjustments. The line helps checking the front and the BACK side of the tire to get the right measurement. As I recall one of the tie rod ends is coarse thread and one is fine thread, so Don't think a turn on one side is equivalent to a turn on the other...
