I use a test light or volt meter from the "hot" terminal to earth, that way you know you have power or not. You can still have ohms with leakage. I like the test light because it's either on or off. If it's on, move to the next terminal, if it's off, the problem is between the test point and the battery. If you like meters, use a volt meter the same way as a test light.
