I cannot see how an aftermarket dampner is going to have a significant improvement over the stock dampner at the low max RPM of the engine, which is approx 2800 RPM. The aftermarket dampners are made to meet racing sanctioning body specs because of some fatigued dampners coming apart at very high RPM's. The heavy dampners also help because of lightweight rods, cranks and pistons in race engines. In my opinion, the cost and hassle of having one made for the 230 is a waste of time and money better spent elsewhere.

As for whether the 230 is internally or externally balanced, I was told it was internally balanced. But I have not been able to confirm that in any of my manuals.
