They are balanceable. I drive my 9.00R16 XZLs and have driven my 11.00R16 XLs at over 70 mph; I continue to drive my 11.00s that fast on my F350.
XLs do sometimes wear unevenly unless rotated very often, and that can throw balance out. But for use on pavement dry or rainy, they far exceed NDs. In the only medium where NDs do well, mud, XLs do as well or better. IMHO.
