Let's see. ALL the postwar PWs had 6.5" wide split rims, 16" diameter, and mounted 9.00-16s. All the Dodges from WW2 1/2 ton WCs, to 3/4 ton WCs, to M37s and PWs, have the same 5 hole bolt pattern. But the 1/2 ton WCs have 5.5" wide 16" wheels and had 7.50-16s. They also had 4.89 gears. Their diffs were a bit smaller. All the WW2 3/4 tons had the 6.5" wheels and 9.00-16s and 5.83 diffs. A few early 3/4 tons had smaller diffs but still had 5.83s. All M37s had 6.5" wheels, 9.00-16s, big diffs with 5.83s. Postwar PWs were the same except 4.89 diffs (big, not little) were optional. But rare. And one more thing: WW2 trucks had combat wheels, not split rims.
The only way to differentiate 4.89 from 5.83 PWs without looking inside a diff is to spin a wheel off the ground and count driveshaft revolutions. If it's an open diff and the other wheel is on the ground, take the wheel revolutions divided by the driveshaft revolutions and then divide by two.
