One way I look at things like that is if I absolutely can't get it apart any other way, what do I have to lose? Worst case, you wreck it, but if you can't get it apart, it's junk anyway. I would put it in the press, put some serious force on it, and then heat the outside as fast as possible with a rosebud. To break press fits loose with heat, it doesn't do any good if the whole thing is equally hot anyway. You need the outside part (usually a bearing race) hotter than the inside part in order for there to be any difference in expansion.
Maybe an expert can say just what temperature (e.g. "straw", "blue", etc) it takes to ruin the heat treat in something like that.
