1/4" fuel line would move the fuel twice as fast, allowing only half the time for it to boil in the line.
Though I think the theory is that the fuel vaporizes between tank and pump. Check for air leaks in those lines.
Another theory is that the pump leaks air into the diaphragm because the pump faces are not flat.
