Hi folks.

I have a 79 W200 PowerWagon with a 360 I had rebuilt 2 years ago. I have had nothing but problems with Calif smog. I think this engine is later model, and has a engine ID stamped on the lower part of the block of "91 110048". It has an EGR with vacuum amplifier, but I think the new Edelbrock carbb does not use venturi vacuum to drive the EGR. A smog station tagged it as a gross polluter; would not dyno cause it is full-time 4 wheel, so it passed OK at high RPM just not low, with high CO. They said the EGR signal is not present, so I will try and reroute the vacuum from the edelbrock "egr port" to the EGR directly to see if I can make it work.

When engine was rebuilt, it had a "RV" cam installed; looking back on this paperwork, it indicates "OFF ROAD USE ONLY". The mechanic said nothing about this being done, and also this reciept shows the motor they replaced mine with was 1978. This might explain some differenece in the air cleaner, and some smog parts, but I dont know if this alone qualifies my vehicle to be "smog exempt". I do know that to make it original it would cost much more than I could afford.

Any suggestions about how to ID this motor code, and what I should do about the smog in california would ba appreciated!

Thanks,
Ronan
