I guess if your not doing a lot of off road, the Steering box outside the frame would be ok. However, I prefer it inside the frame rails. Its gets quite a bit of protection from trees, brush, rocks...whatever when running off road getting tangled or locked in the input or output of the steering box.

Just my opinion.
