head bolt removal....any advice....

When they are really seated in good, and you're afraid of snapping one, what's been done to prevent it from happening? Hasn't happened yet, but the other day I could tell it was getting close. I worked it back and forth till it finally gave. I was sweating bullets for a short time, though
