I just finished building one for a 49 and here is my 2 cents.

The carburetor dip they sell now does not work too well. I understand some people have gone to an ultrasonic cleaner with dish soap.

There is a big problem with warping of the pot metal castings on the B & Bs. This causes vacuum leaks for the power enrichment circuit and the accelerator pump circuit as well as gasoline leaks. I have heard that you can straighten them by clamping them to a steel plate and heating them in the oven to 400 degrees. The most experienced guy I talked to said to not take it out more than .003" per cycle.

You can get ball hones from McMaster-Carr for the different cylinders.

Don't expect the repair kits to have the right parts are all the parts you need. Many are shipped with the wrong main jet, accelerator pump spring, and accelerator pump rod. There also seems to be consensus that slight larger jets are required for the current 10% gasahol now in common use. Also they don't give you all the little plugs you need. I don't know where to get them except out of old carbs. They are hard to get off with out damaging them. I find a wood chisel the best tool.

I found the Eastwood tin-zinc plating kit very nice for finishing some parts, but you cannot use it on the choke plate unless you remove the button spring. It will make the button spring brittle.

You can make new choke seals out of felt or neoprene with a gasket punch. You have to reuse the metal part.

All though you are not supposed to do it, you probably will have to rebuild the governor/throttle. I was unable to find any drawings or information on this other than adjustments.

I have a bunch of pages that I collected on this and will try to submit them when I get a chance.
