Here is a pic of my repair. I turned the end of the stub down, sawed the other side of the hinge back, inserted the skinny end and welded it together.

Simpler and common fix is to butt weld the stud to the end, but I thought my fix would last longer. End should be as long as the hood.

If you do remove the hinges use some seam sealer on re-assembly. Otherwise rain water comes through and fills the spark plug depressions.
