Mechanical type question

i was just going to drive up the mountain and look at the northern lights . The truck sounds a bit clanky and I look at the flexplate and it is broken around the crank . It still starts but I am leary of tanking it up the mountain and having the whole thing spin around and not turn the engine over .
Is there a short cut that works . Has anyone managed to change a flexplate without moving the motor or transmission . Going to start on it tomorrow .
