Tom, I agree with you about the reserve selling on ebay and not playing games. I don't with the statement about the extended time frames on online auctions. Unlike your statment of "It's like the old country farm auction, slam the gavel and get it over with". These are two seperate and totaly different venues. I am a farm auctioneer and I try never to say sold while I still have people trying to bid, it does happen sometimes though. My job as an agent for the seller is to try to get as much money for the seller as possible within a reasonable amount of time. You always hear a live auctioneer ask before he/she says sold "all in, all through" and then a very short pause to give the "back up" bidder a chance to bid again. In a real life voice auction people actually bid on the item in a matter of seconds not days, (I try to average an item a minute or better). When no one bids on an item an auctioneer will either pass it over or add another item to it to build more value to get bids. I realize that I or even ebay can only beg for so long and then we have to move on but then again people need to bid rather than sit on their hands for days.
