Winch (Extra Equiptment)
W500 Models with 4 speed transmission: The winch on the front of the vehicle is driven from a power take off on the transmission. To operate, put transmission and transfer case.... Next (in drivers seat) pushpower take off control lever on floor forword to wind, or all the way back to unwind, with transmission and transfer case still in neutral, accelerate engine to speed.
W500 with 5 speed transmission: Winch powertake offis controlled by a three position knob on the instrument panel. To wind winch pull knob out, to unwind push knob all the way in, when knob is in center position, power take off is disengaed.
Looks like different winch and different control for the 4 and 5 speed tranys, whats a hoot is this book 1970 shows the bumper as the one with steo cut outs with out a winch and with a winch but not the one on the truck you or I have or Jerrylol My w500 is a hacked up 4 and 5 speed winch somebody juryed rigged, thats why i became obsessed over what winch bumper is correct for what year and the control etc. I knew Martys truck did not have a winch on it when i was posting, but it has that odd bumper with the holes in it for i figure the optional HD winch that came with the 5 speed 540 transmission, whatever that winch was i still have no clue, i have a lu2 on my w500 with 4 speed but hackjob pto hole in floor and winch bumper extenssions and pipe for a bumperlol If you find a w500 parts book with the winch section intact post up and i will pay asap cash, have bought from your store way back and never seen a w500 67 book yet thanks for your time and i am sorry about my winch bumper obsession!!!! Not!!!!!!
