I'm probably in the same boat as Kevin as I had it on a 3 axle trailer that was designed to haul a small cat or a skidsteer. My trailer unloaded was perfectly balenced, that being that I did not need a jack on the front to keep the tounge on the ground. I would have to put my load really far forward to get it to pull 1/2 way decent, and even then it was scary. After a incident where I almost lost a W300 off the trailer not to mention my life, I got home ang got the seat cushion unstuck from you know where, and chopped off that pintle hitch. I put on the ball and re-engineered (lightened) the rear ramps. After that no problems. I also was hauling with a 1 ton Dodge 4x4.
One thing that does always concern me is how the receiver is attached to the truck frame. We build our trailer out of 6" channel and heavy steel, but when I look at how the receiver hitch is attached to the frame (factory install) there is only 6 bolts of unknown grade holding it all to the frame of the truck. Again, my desire to go with a gooseneck. It just seems like a more solid setup.
