Thanks, Steve, that was a very helpful post. I wasn't 100% sure that the crud had been caused by adding the "liquid lead" but your experience confirms my hunch. It sounds like you "rode it out" and simply replaced filters until all the red crud disappeared. I'm inclined to try that-- I laid in a healthy supply of filters-- rather than to drop the tank because it is such an unholy bear to get it back. I did it..... once.
