Dave you dont say if have a generator but if ,it is most likly the points have stuck in the regulator>This could have been caused by the "spike " of volts and amps when you reved it up>I doubt the battery is a bad>if you have a gen open the voltage regulater and you will see the stuck points> all this is only if you have a generator and a voltage regulator
