The exhaust brakes have a engineered opening in the butterfly so all exhaust gas is NOT stopped in the flow out. This is why its critical to buy the exhaust brake engineered for the engine your using. With the engine idling and exhaust brake armed, you can hear the hiss of the exhaust gas blowing thru the opening in the butterfly. Both, Jake, Pac and Dodge recommend the exhaust brake as a means to achieve quicker warm up of the engine in bitter cold.
