I've never used an exhaust brake, but is there a limit to how much you can safely restrict the exhaust? It seems to me that if you have too much back pressure it would push the exhaust valve open at the bottom of the intake stroke and let exhaust back into the cylinder and maybe burn the valves. Also, since it goes downstream of the turbo, wouldn't the exhaust pressure tend to blow through the seals/bearings in the turbo and blow the oil out or blow exhaust into the crankcase or the intake. I know exhaust brakes work, but how do they keep the back pressure from getting too high?
