Well, I am a believer in the heat and candle wax. For head bolts, I just heat them enough to really melt the candle wax. Never heat the to a color change or even close to that. The melted wax will penetrate down into the threads. I have never had a problem, even with some nasty rusted head bolts. I have never had much luck with the spray penetrating oils, they do smell nice. The wax stinks and smokes, but works. Anytime I have a rusted bolt/nut, I use the heat/wax trick. On some fasteners that will not be reused, I heat hotter then wax. However, if you heat to hot, the wax will just burn off and not run and penetrate.
