The point of synchros is to match speeds of the moving parts by braking. You have to do it manually.

Up shifting is easy, just let off the clutch and gas, shift into neutral, pause while the parts low down, and slip it into the next gear. 140wt oil makes it easier.

Down shifting is a bit tougher: let off gas and clutch, pull shifter into neutral, let out clutch and rev engine (and input gears) to the speed they will need to be in the lower gear. Now hit clutch, and simply slide it into the lower gear. Rev engine appropriatly as you finally release the clutch, or you will go through that pristine windshield frame you payed $425 for.

In a year or two, you can upshift without using the clutch. From then on, you will never wear out a clutch again, on any vehicle.
