I have a 1976 Dodge M-886 ambulance, 318 v-8, auto 4x4.
When driving, after 12-15 miles, the engine loses power.
I coast to a stop and allow it to idle, which it does .
but when I apply gas, it backfires/ loses power. If I
shut off the engine and wait a few minutes, then re-
start, it runs fine for another 12-15 miles or so. I
have replaced everything except for the battery,alternator,
and voltage regulator. A friend thought that the choke
may be the problem, but that wasn't it. The problem is
still there. Any ideas, or similar experiences to share?
By the way, I am located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
