Well I've had carburetors ice and give similar symtoms but you did'nt say if it only did it on moist days. Icing usually occurs when the outside temperature is around 38Farenhiet. When you stop the heat from the engine is enough to thaw the carburetor. I found a fast food place about half way to work to let my car thaw in the winter.
