Strange Temp Readings on Transmission??

Findly took the Dodge for a good test ride. Interesting temps all over the place. I monitored the temp right out of the Converter Cooling Line befor the cooler. All the way to town (down hill) it was around 135 degs in over drive at 45-55 mph. At the stop sign ready to pull onto the freeway it jumped to 150 degs then right back down to 130 for 4 miles at 60 MPH. Pulled off and crusied in town below 30 mph and it went to 170 degs stopped at the bank for a couple mins and it went down to 150 degs at start up and dropped to 130 at idle in gear. Went back up to 150 degs in town and dropped to 130 back on the freeway? Pulled a 8 mile steep hill at 50+ it went up to 150-190 degs till the top when I needed to shift into 4X4 because of the snow and drop my speed to around 25 mph. The temp jumped real fast with in seconds up to 250 degs right away along with the RPMs going from 2,000 to 3,000 on the Tach. After the RPMs dropped back down and 1/4 mile or less of driving it went back to 190 degs then to 150 degs the rest of the way in 4X4 on normal roads. Seems when I had to slow down it goes up and when the trans starts shifting again 30-35 mph it goes up to 190-200 degs and stayed around there traveling in the 30 mph range. I think the lock out on the converter causes a lot of heat when it goes out of lock out(slips) and that is the problem with over heating the trans not high speed driving or hills just when you slow down and pull one at around 30 mph. What do you think about this? Is the converter bad or the control for it telling it to start slipping to soon? The Trans Over Heat never came on but 15 degs from it for 15 or so seconds is getting close! Be nice to have a over ride switch to keep it locked in when you wanted it to be like a manual transmission except for stopping if this is what is causing the higher Temp readings! Mark H.
